GENERAL INFORMATION
The PD42 is part of the Intermec range of Commercial Printers which sits between the Desktop models and the Industrial Printers. The PD41 is a simplified version which has a single button user interface.
Both DT and DT/TT versions of the 203dpi printers are available.
The 300dpi versions are DT/TT only.
All models of the PD42 have Universal Firmware which provides all-in-one, user-selectable printer languages - EPL, Fingerprint/Direct Protocol(DP), IPL, ZSim (emulated Zebra ZPL) and DSim (emulated Datamax DPL).
The PD42 has a 240 x 160 pixels graphical display with a 5 button keypad.
All models of the PD42 have USB, Serial, Ethernet and USB Host connectivity.
Some models come with Parallel and WiFi 802.11 bg.
A good range of upgrades and accessories is available.
The dimensions of the PD42 are 453 x 273 x 270mm (17.8 x 10.8 x 10.6").
The printer weighs 13kg (28.7lb).
The media width is from 25mm (1") to 114m (4.5").
The ribbon width is from 30mm (1.18") to 110mm (4.33").
The printer resolution is 203dpi (8dots/mm) or 300dpi (11.8 dots/mm) depending on printhead.
The maximum printing speed is 152.4 mm/s (6ips) at 203dpi or 101.6 mm/s (4ips) at 300dpi.
MEDIA HANDLING
As standard the PD42 comes with tear-off printing and a label taken sensor (LTS).
Other options are available as upgrades.
TEAR-OFF
This is the standard media handling arrangement. The label stationery is fed through the printer and after passing under the printhead emerges from the front of the printer.
The printed strip of label stationery is removed by pulling against a tear bar.
This mode works with any type of label.
The availablity of LTS means that single labels can be printed and torn off individually.
LABEL PEEL WITH LINER REWIND
This mode only works for self-adhesive labels with gaps.
Single labels are part peeled from the liner on the tear bar and are ready for direct manual application.
The waste liner is taken down from the part peeled label, returned back through the printer and rewound on a spindle. The printed label has to be physically removed before a further label is printed. This process is monitored by the Label Taken Sensor (LTS).
CUTTER
A cutter option can be fitted on the front of the printer.
The printed label media passes through this unit and is cut across into individual pieces.
The label stationery will normally be non-adhesive label tags, receipt paper, or self-adhesive labels with gaps.
COMMUNICATIONS OPTIONS
The PD42 as standard has:
- USB
- Serial
- Parallel
- 10/100 Ethernet
- USB Host
- Compact Flash Card Slot.
The printers can be upgraded to include:
- Parallel Connectivity
- Wi-Fi 802.11 Radio.
LABEL MEDIA
The PD42 works with outside wound label stationery in rolls of up to 213mm (8.4") outer diameter on 38-40mm (1.5") or 76mm (3") cores.
Alternatively fan-folded label media can be fed into the printer via a slot in the rear.
The PD42 has a label gap sensor and a black mark sensor which can be adjusted from 0 to 57mm (2.24") from the left edge.
The label media types can be continuous, die-cut, notched or black marked.
THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS
The PD42 requires ribbons to print on thermal transfer (TT) label stationery.
These ribbons are outside coated and wound on 25.4mm (1") cores.
The maximum length is 450M.
The minimum ribbon width is 30mm (1.18") and the maximum is 110mm (4.33").
