Buyers Guide
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The PM42 is a solidly built mid-range industrial "4-inch" label printer which prints at up to 12ips.
It measures 484mm (19.1") x 292mm (11.5") x 283mm (11.1") and weighs 12.1kg (26.7lbs).
The printer has an easy to use interface based on a screen and 8 buttons.
The PM42 comes with 128MB memory which can be extended using external storage.
Printing resolution can be 203, 300 or 406dpi depending on the printhead.
The PM42 runs under Direct Protocol, IPL, DPL, ZPL via zSim2, Fingerprint and Honeywell C# for Printers.
The printer comes with a durable all metal construction with a die-cast aluminium frame.
The PM42 offers excellent value for money and comes with a small range of add-ons and accessories.
COMMUNICATIONS
The PM42 printer has USB 2.0, Serial, Ethernet and a USB Host port.
The USB Host port can be used for connecting USB barcode scanners and USB keyboards as input devices for stand alone smart printing applications.
MEDIA HANDLING
The standard model offers "tear-off" mode where the printed stationery is removed by pulling it against a tear bar.
Printer models are available with label peel-off and liner rewind.
LABEL MEDIA
The label stationery used by the PM42 is usually housed internally in roll form.
The printer works with rolls of label stationery wound on 38 to 76mm (1.5 to 3") cores.
The maximum outer diameter of the label rolls is 213mm (8.38").
Alternatively the labels can be fed in through a slot in the rear of the printer from external sources.
The width of the label media can be from 19 to 114mm (0.75 to 4.5").
The label media types can be continuous, die-cut with gaps, notched or black marked.
THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS
The PM42 prints on Thermal Transfer media with the aid of a ribbon.
The ribbons can be from 25.4 to 114.13mm (1 to 4.5") wide.
The ribbons can be inside or outside inked on 25.4mm (1") cores.
The maximum roll diameter is 80mm (3.15") which typically corresponds to a maximum ribbon length of 450M (1476').

LABELS
Some models of the PM42 work with either TT media and a ribbon or DT media without a ribbon.
Other models can only work with DT media.
Please be careful to choose DT labels if you have a DT printer.

Honeywell is in the process of discontinuing the Intermec range of label media for desktop, mid-range and industrial printers and are not yet offering alternative products.
