WHAT IS THE HONEYWELL XENON XP 1952G-BF?
The Honeywell Xenon XP 1952g-bf is a family of battery-free hand-held Bluetooth general performance cordless 1D/2D barcode scanners.
WHERE DOES THE XENON XP 1952G-BF FIT?
The Xenon XP 1952g-bf is the latest in a long line of Xenon scanners.
The XP in the name emphasises Extreme Performance. The Xenon XP 1952g-bf family uses a "greener" Super Capacitor Power Pack rather than a conventional Lithium-ion Battery.
There are two closely related families.
The Xenon XP 1952g family uses Lithium-ion batteries.
The Xenon XP 1952h family comes with special features for Healthcare and some models are battery-free.
WHERE IS THE XENON XP 1952G-BF USED?
The Xenon XP 1952g-bf is aimed at general purpose applications which involve a small number of scans before needing to recharge the scanner power pack. The subsequent recharging is also accomplished in a very short time. Typical applications include using a battery-free scanner as an auxiliary to a fixed POS Scanner. The Xenon XP 1952g-bf is always ready to scan large items which cannot be presented easily to the fixed scanner.
Many more scenarios are expected to emerge.

SUPER CAPACITOR BATTERY PACK
The Super Capacitor differs from the conventional approach in that the life time of the power pack is expected to be more than five times longer than a Lithium-ion battery. It is cheaper and lighter and the eventual recycling costs are expected to be lower.
For the Xenon XP 1952g-bf the maximum number of scans per full charge is about 450. The full recharge time is about 2 minutes using a simple USB connection or under 30 seconds if a 5V power supply is connected directly to the base.
By way of comparison the Xenon XP 1952g which uses a conventional Lithium-ion battery gives up to 72000 scans per charge and the expected full recharge time is about 4.5 hours.
BLUETOOTH WIRELESS
The Xenon XP 1952g-bf uses Bluetooth radio v4.2 which provides communication at up to 10m line of sight.
XENON XP 1952G-BF OPTICS
The Xenon XP 1952g-bf is an Area Imager with 1280 x 800 pixels.
There is a choice of two optical systems.
Standard Range reads 1D codes down to 3 mils in density and 2D codes to 7.5 or 10 mil depending on symbology at a normal reading range.
High Density also reads 3 mils 1D barcodes and improves reading of 2D barcodes to 5 mils but comes with a reduced reading range.
TOUGHNESS
The Xenon XP 1952g-bf is surprisingly robust for a general purpose scanner.
It has a Tumble Specification of 2,000 0.5m impacts.
It has been engineered to withstand fifty 1.8m drops to concrete.
Sealing to dust and water is IP42.
OPERATING TEMPERATURE RANGE
The scanner operates at 0 to 50ºC and the temperature range for the bases when charging is 5 to 40ºC.
