GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Honeywell PX6ie is a Heavy Duty "6 inch" Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer printer.
The Honeywell PX6ie replaces the Intermec PX6i. The PX6ie has a faster processor, larger memory capacity and a faster USB port.
All models are factory fitted with a Real Time Clock.

In addition to printing conventional labels and tags, an RFID option is available.
Printer models are available in two print resolutions:
- 200 dpi. This resolution is used for general purpose applications
- 300dpi. This resolution produces fine print and is typically used for images and standard size EAN13 retail barcodes
It is possible to convert the printer to a different resolution simply by swapping the printhead.
The 203dpi and 300dpi models have a maximum print speed of 9 inches per second.
The maximum printable width is 167.4mm (6.59") in both DT mode and TT mode.
The maximum printable length depends on the print resolution.
- At 203dpi it is 4095mm (161")
- At 300dpi it is 2775mm (109")
WHAT CONNECTION OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
All PX6ie printers can be connected using USB, Serial and Ethernet cables.
Some models also offer connection via a parallel cable and others offer wireless connection.
A USB Host Port allows the connection of a keyboard, barcode scanner or USB storage device.
There are other connectivity options which are shown later in Advanced Features.
WHAT LABEL STATIONERY CAN BE USED?
The label stationery used by the PX6ie is usually housed internally in roll form. Alternatively fanfold stationery can be fed in through a slot in the rear of the printer.
The printer works with rolls of label stationery wound on 38 or 76mm (1.5 or 3") cores.
The maximum outside diameter of the rolls is 213mm (8.38").
All printer configurations come with a rotating unwinder which provides a means of detecting how much label stationery remains but more importantly aids accuracy when printing very tiny labels.
All printer configurations work with heat sensitive Direct Thermal (DT) label stationery or with non-heat sensitive label media using a ribbon to print the label image.
The PX6ie has adjustable label sensors which means that the label media can be:
- Self-adhesive die-cut labels with gaps
- Self-adhesive butt-cut labels without gaps and with under-printed black marks
- Non-adhesive tags punched with holes or slots
- Non-adhesive tags under-printed with black marks
- Continuous stationery, for example receipt paper
WHAT LABEL PRINTING SOFTWARE IS AVAILABLE?
Most label printers are used in conjunction with Label Printing Software packages.
An example of labelling software is Bartender Ultra Lite for Honeywell which can be downloaded free of charge.

Labelling software applications send commands in languages which are known to the printer.
If you wish you can use these printer languages directly.
The available languages for this printer are:

- IPL
- Zebra ZPL
- Datamax DPL
The PX6ie has "autosensing" capability which enables it to detect the language being sent to it automatically.
Other specialist printer languages are available and these are described in Advanced Features.
WHAT CAN BE PRINTED ON THE LABELS?
The PX6ie prints monochrome text, barcodes and graphics.
The legibility of small print depends on the printhead resolution.
The PX6ie comes with a range of resident fonts and additional fonts can be downloaded.
A wide range of 1D and 2D barcodes is available.
WHAT MEDIA HANDLING IS AVAILABLE?
PX6ie printers offer the following choice of media handling methods.
TEAR OFF
Some PX6ie printer configurations come with no special media handling and the printed label media is torn off by pulling against the tear bar.
PEEL OFF
This mode requires a factory fitted option which includes a label taken sensor and a rewind spindle.
The self-adhesive label stationery is threaded through the printer, a few labels are removed from the end of the roll and the loose end of liner is wound around a core on the rewind spindle.
When the label is printed the label partly peels on the tear bar and waits for its removal by the user. The process is monitored by the label taken sensor and when the label has been removed the next printed label is presented and the spent liner is taken up on the rewind spindle.
CUT OFF
Some PX6ie printer configurations come with a cutter which fits onto the front of the printer.
The printed label media passes through this unit and is cut across into individual pieces.
The label stationery will normally be non-adhesive label tags, receipt paper, or self-adhesive labels with gaps.
The cutter is also available as a user-installable accessory.
BATCH TAKE-UP
This mode can be used if the printer has a rewind spindle.
It requires the removal of the tear bar and its replacement with a label guide which is supplied with the printer.
The label stationery is threaded through the printer and the loose end is wound around a core on the rewinder spindle.
The printed label media is rewound for further use. There is capacity for 30-40% of a full roll of labels to be rewound in this way.
LABEL MEDIA
The PX6ie can print on TT label media with the aid of a ribbon or on DT label media without a ribbon.
The label media can be outside wound on 38mm or 76mm (1.5 or 3.0") cores, or fanfolded. If you are using media with 76mm cores you will need to install a 76mm core adapter.
The printer internally houses rolls of labels with an outside diameter of up to 213mm (8.38").
Fanfolded stationery is held outside the printer and is fed through a slot in the rear of the printer.
The label media width can be from 76 to 170mm (3" to 6.70").
THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS
The PX6ie can print on Thermal Transfer media with the aid of a ribbon.
The ribbons can be from 76 to 170mm (3" to 6.70") wide. The ribbons can be inside or outside wound on 25.4mm (1") cores.
The maximum ribbon length is 450M (1476').
ADVANCED FEATURES
The following advanced features are available.
FINGERPRINT AND C#
Honeywell Fingerprint and C# can be used with the PX6ie printer.
These Smart printer languages allow the printer to run applications and do not depend on the connection to a host.
USB HOST PORT
All PX6ie printers come with a USB Host port. This can be used to connect USB keyboards, USB barcode scanners and USB storage.
ADDITIONAL CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS
These additional connectivity options are available as accessories.
- Industrial Interface and UART card. This adds eight digital I/O ports, four analog relays and a programmable UART
- Dual UART card. This adds two UARTS
- Applicator Interface card
RFID
Some PX6ie models are factory fitted with an UHF RFID encoder and can write information to labels with UHF tags.

TT media needs a ribbon. DT does not.

DELIVERY
Our standard charge for 2-3 day delivery to most locations in mainland UK is £10.
This charge is subject to a weight limit of 20Kg.
For consignments which are heavier than 20Kg we reserve the right to add a surcharge.
If your order includes products from more than one manufacturer we may need to ship items from more than one warehouse and in such circumstances there may be a carriage surcharge.
We will agree any carriage surcharge with you before accepting your order.
