The Honeywell PX45 is a family of extremely rugged "4 inch" Thermal Transfer printers.
WHERE IS THE PX45 USED?

WHERE DOES THE PX45 FIT?
The PX45 comes from a long line of PX4i printers which ended with the PX4ie.
The PX45 replaces the PX4ie.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE PX45?
The PX45 is a strong and powerful printer which finds use in a wide range of industrial applications.
WHAT USER INTERFACES ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE PX45?
The PX45 has a tactile keypad and a full touch colour screen.
WHAT PRINT RESOLUTIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE PX45?
PX45 Printer models are available in three print resolutions:
- 203 dpi. This resolution is used for general purpose applications
- 300dpi. This resolution produces fine print and is typically used for images and standard size EAN13 retail barcodes
- 406dpi. This resolution gives even finer print and is used for tiny text and high density barcodes
It is possible to convert the printer to a different resolution simply by swapping the printhead.
The speed depends on the resolution.

WHAT CONNECTION OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THE PX45?
All PX45 printers can be connected using USB, RS232 and Ethernet cables.
Parallel and Wi-Fi are available as options.

WHAT LABELS AND RIBBONS CAN THE PX45 USE?
LABEL MEDIA
The PX45 can print on TT label media with the aid of a ribbon or on DT label media without a ribbon.
The PX45 has adjustable label sensors which means that the label media can be:
- Self-adhesive die-cut labels with gaps
- Self-adhesive butt-cut labels without gaps and with under-printed black marks
- Non-adhesive tags punched with holes or slots
- Non-adhesive tags under-printed with black marks
- Continuous stationery, for example receipt paper
The PX45 internally houses rolls of labels with an outside diameter of up to 213mm.
The label media can be outside wound on 38mm or 76mm (1.5 or 3.0") cores, or fanfolded.
Fanfolded stationery is held outside the printer and is fed through a slot in the rear of the printer.
The label media width can be from 25.4 to 114mm.
The maximum print width is 112mm.
The maximum printable length depends on the printhead resolution.

THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS
The PX45 can print on Thermal Transfer media with the aid of a ribbon.
Ribbons can be Wax, Wax/Resin or Resin.
The ribbons are on 25.4mm cores and can be inside or outside wound.
The maximum outside diameter of the ribbon is 80mm which corresponds to a length of 450m.
The ribbon width should be chosen so that it is at least as wide as the label media including the backing.
WHAT LABEL PRINTING SOFTWARE IS AVAILABLE FOR THE PX45?
Most label printers are used in conjunction with Label Printing Software packages.
An example of labelling software is Bartender Ultra Lite for Honeywell which can be downloaded free of charge.

Labelling software applications send commands in languages which are known to the printer.
If you wish you can use these printer languages directly.

WHAT CAN THE PX45 PRINT ON THE LABELS?
The PX45 prints monochrome text, barcodes and graphics.
The legibility of small print depends on the printhead resolution, 406dpi being the best option.
The PX45 comes with a range of resident fonts and additional fonts can be downloaded.
A wide range of 1D and 2D barcodes is available.
The printer supports PCX, PNG, GIF and BMP file formats.
WHAT MEDIA HANDLING IS AVAILABLE FOR THE PX45?
TEAR OFF
Some PX45 printer configurations come with no special media handling and the printed label media is torn off by pulling against the tear bar.
PEEL OFF WITH LINER REWIND
This mode requires a factory fitted option which includes a label taken sensor and a rewind spindle.
The self-adhesive label stationery is threaded through the printer, a few labels are removed from the end of the roll and the loose end of liner is wound around a core on the rewind spindle.
When the label is printed the label partly peels on the tear bar and waits for its removal by the user. The process is monitored by the label taken sensor and when the label has been removed the next printed label is presented and the spent liner is taken up on the rewind spindle.
CUT OFF
This mode uses a cutter unit which is sited at the front of the printer.
The printed label media passes through this unit and is cut across into individual pieces.
The label stationery will normally be non-adhesive label tags, receipt paper, or self-adhesive labels with gaps.
WHAT ADVANCED FEATURES DOES THE PX45 HAVE?
The following advanced features are available.
INTERMEC FINGERPRINT AND C#
Fingerprint and C# can be used with the PX45 printer.
These Smart printer languages allow the printer to run applications and do not depend on the connection to a host.
USB HOST PORTS
All PX45 printers come with two USB Host ports.
They can be used to connect USB keyboards, USB barcode scanners and USB storage.
ADDITIONAL CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS
These additional connectivity options are available as add-ons.

RFID
Some PX45 models are factory fitted with a UHF RFID encoder and can write information to labels with UHF tags.

PX45 printers work with thermal transfer (TT) or direct thermal (DT) media.
TT media needs a ribbon. DT does not.

Honeywell is in the process of discontinuing the Intermec range of label media for desktop, mid-range and industrial printers and are not yet offering alternative products.

Our standard charge for 2-3 day delivery to most locations in mainland UK is £10.
This charge is subject to a weight limit of 20Kg.
For consignments which are heavier than 20Kg we reserve the right to add a surcharge.
