PRINTER DESCRIPTION
The Datamax-O'Neil H-4606x is a "4 inch" wide 6ips 600dpi heavy duty industrial H-Class X Thermal Transfer (DT/TT) label printer.

Datamax-O'Neil H-Class X H-4606x
The H-Class X family is the top of line in the Datamax-O'Neil range of stationary label printers.
It is positioned above the E-Class Mark III desktop family, the compact M-Class Mark II industrial family, the I-class and I-Class Mark II mid-range industrial families, and the H-Class heavy duty industrial label printers.
The introduction of the H-Class X series of printers represents a major improvement over it's H-Class predecessors, both in terms of performance and facilities.
The H-Class X printers come as standard with the addition of Wired Ethernet, USB Host Ports and a SDIO card slot. For most models the media supply hub is metal rather than plasic and where a rewinder is used it is separately powered. Finally, perhaps the more visually obvious enhancements are the larger screen on the font panel and the increase in the height of the printers which allows the internal rewinding of a full roll of printed labels on an industry standard 76mm (3") core.
The family consists of three "4 inch", two "6 inch" and one "8 inch" printer.
The 203dpi H-4212X, the 300dpi H-4310x and the 600dpi H-4606x "4 inch" printers have maximum print speeds of 12ips, 10ips and 6ips respectively.
The 203dpi H-6212x and the 300dpi H-6310x "6 inch" printers have maximum print speeds of 12ips and 10ips respectively.
The 300dpi H-8308X "8 inch" printer has a maximum print speed of 8ips.
The H-4606x measures 415 x 321 x 489mm (16.4 x 12.6 x 19.3") HxWxD, weighs 21.4kg (47lbs) and comes in black.
Thermal Transfer and Direct Thermal
All H-Class X printers have a ribbon mechanisms and can print on Thermal Transfer (TT) label media.
These printers can also print on DT label media without using a ribbon.
Printer Languages and Fonts
The H-4606x printer runs under Datamax DPL but can emulate Zebra ZPL or Intermec IPL.
This allows the H-4606x to be used as a drop-in replacement for Zebra or Intermec printers in appropriate situations.
In addition to the standard European fonts, Japanese Kanji, Simplified Chinese and Korean Hangul are available. A combination of emulated ZPL and Kanji or Chinese fonts is also available.
Interface Options
All H-4606x models come as standard with USB, Serial, Parallel, Wired Ethernet, USB Host Ports and a SDIO card slot.
Some factory delivered models also offer Wireless 802.11 a/b/g, a GPIO Applicator interface or the combination of both.

Media Handling Options
The standard model offers tear-off where the printed stationery is removed by pulling it against a tear bar.
Other factory delivered models are available with:
- an Internal Rewind
- a Basic Label Peel and Present mechanism with Rewinder
- a Heavy Duty HD Label Peel and Present mechanism with Rewinder
- a Label Present Sensor without Rewinder
- a Label Present Sensor with the Rewinder
- a Cutter.
The Internal Rewind Option can be used to rewind full rolls of printed labels on 76mm (3") cores.
Labels can be individually dispensed partly peeled using either the Basic Peel and Present Sensor Option or the heavy duty HD Peel and Present Sensor Option. Both of these require the Internal Rewinder to take up the spent liner.
The Label Present Sensor can be used with tear-off to dispense single labels on the backing.
The Cutter Option is available to cut the printed label stationery across the roll.
Only one of these options can be installed in the printer at any one time, but the printer can be converted between them using the field installable:
On the supply side the printers come as standard with a motorised 76mm (3") media hub.
The printer comes as standard with dual label sensors. The first is used with die-cut labels, or labels and tags punched with holes or notches. The second works with black registration marks which are printed underneath the label liner or tag.
RFID Options
Some factory delivered H-4606x models are available with fully functioning HF or UHF RFID transponders.
Alternatively other factory delivered H-4606x models come with a UHF RFID Ready option which can be upgraded after delivery using the field installable:
Please note that the RFID Ready, HF RFID or UHF RFID Options cannot be installed in the printer after delivery.
Barcode Scanner Option
The Linear Barcode Scanner option reads picket fence 1D printed barcodes as they emerge from the printer.
The Barcode Scanner Option is available in the factory delivered models except where any of the HF RFID, UHF RFID or UHF RFID Ready options is already installed.

Memory and Real Time Clock
The H-4606x printer comes as standard with 8MB Flash, 16MB DRAM memory, and a Real Time Clock RTC.
Label Media
The label stationery can be mounted inside the printer in outside wound rolls of up to 203mm (8") OD rolls on 76mm (3") cores.
The printer can also handle fan-folded stationery. This is placed externally and is fed into the printer via slots in the casing.
The label media can be 25.4 to 118.1mm (1 to 4.65") wide with a maximum print width of 105.7mm (4.16").
The maximum print length is 2539.75mm (99.99") and the minimum print length is 6.35mm (0.25") for tear-off and rewind modes, and 25.4mm (1") for the cutter and for peel-off.
Thermal Transfer Ribbons
The H-4606x has a ribbon mechanism and can be used for Thermal Transfer (TT) printing.
The printer can be used in Direct Thermal (DT) mode, without a ribbon, to print on Direct Thermal (DT) label stationery.
The ribbons required for Thermal Transfer (TT) printing are on 25.4mm (1") cores, can be inside or outside coated, up to 600M (1968') in length.
Ribbons for the H-4606x can be from 25.4 to 114.3mm (1 to 4.5") wide.

The H-4606x printer models work with both Direct thermal (DT) and Thermal Transfer (TT) labels and tags.
The label media can be 25.4 to 118.1mm (1 to 4.65") wide with a maximum print width of 105.7mm (4.16").
The printer accepts rolls of labels of up to 203mm (8") OD on 76mm (3") cores.
The minimum media length is 6.35mm (0.25") for Tear-Off and Rewind, 25.4mm (1") for the Cutter and 38mm (1.5") for Peel.
Datamax-O'Neil currently does not supply labels in the EU.
Decision Technology offers DT and TT paper labels "off the shelf". Delivery of these labels is restricted to mainland UK.
