GENERAL DESCRIPTION
THe SATO CL4NX is an industrial "4 inch" thermal transfer (DT/TT) label printer which comes with a huge range of options which includes HF and UHF RFID.
It has many advanced features and has a large colour screen which shows movies to assist the operator.
The dimensions of the CL4NX are 271 x 457 x 321mm(10.6 x 17.9 x 12.6") and the printer weighs 15kg (33lb).
FONTS AND BARCODES
The printers can print most 1D barcodes and Data Matrix, QR code, PDF417, Maxicode and Aztec 2D symbols.
INTERFACE OPTIONS
All CL4NX printers come with RS232 Serial, IEEE1284 Parallel, USB 2.0, Wired Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth 3.0, and an External I/O port.
Some models also come with other options which can include Wireless LAN, HF and UHF RFID, and a Real Time Clock (RTC).
MEDIA HANDLING
The media type can be roll or fan-fold die cut labels, paper or synthetics and continuous stock.
The CL4NX comes with two label sensors.
The transmissive sensor is adjustable and is used for label stationery with gaps.
The reflective sensor is adjustable and is used for black registration marks (i-marks) printed on the under surface.
The label media can be 22 to 128mm (0.87 to 5") wide.
The media thickness can be .068 to 0.26mm (0.002 to 0.01").
The label media can be internally housed as inside or outside wound rolls up to 220mm (8.6") diameter on 76mm (3") or 101mm (4") cores.
101mm (4") cores are recommended for thick label stationery.
Alternatively the label media can be fed into the printer through slots in the rear and the base of the printer.
TEAR-OFF
This is the standard media handling arrangement. The label stationery is fed through the printer and after passing under the printhead emerges from the front of the printer.
The printed strip of label stationery is removed by pulling against a tear bar.
For tear-off at 203dpi the minimum and maximum length is 17 to 2497mm (0.67 to 98.4").
For tear-off at 305dpi the minimum and maximum length is 17 to 1500mm (0.67 to 59.1").
For tear-off at 906dpi the minimum and maximum length is 17 to 397mm (0.67 to 15.6").
CUTTER
In this arrangement a cutter unit is fitted to the front of the printer.
The printed label media passes through this unit and is cut across into individual pieces.
For cutting at 203dpi the minimum and maximum length is 17 to 2500mm (0.67 to 98.4").
For cutting at 305dpi the minimum and maximum length is 17 to 1500mm (0.67 to 59.1").
For cutting at 605dpi the minimum and maximum length is 17 to 397mm (0.67 to 15.6").
LABEL DISPENSING (NO LINER REWIND)
In this arrangement a peeler unit is fitted to the front of the printer.
The printed labels pass through this unit. The label is partly separated from the backing and the printer waits for the label to be removed before printing the next label.
The spent liner dangles from the front of the printer and needs to removed periodically to prevent a hazard.
For dispensing at 203dpi the minimum and maximum length is 27 to 397mm (1.06 to 15.6").
For dispensing at 305dpi the minimum and maximum length is 27 to 397mm (1.06 to 15.6").
For dispensing at 609dpi the minimum and maximum length is 27 to 397mm (1.06 to 15.6").
LABEL DISPENSER WITH LINER REWIND
In this arrangement a peeler unit is fitted to the front of the printer and a liner take-up spindle is installed in the printer.
The printed labels pass through the peeler unit. The label is partly separated from the backing and the printer waits for the label to be removed before printing the next label.
The spent liner is threaded back through the printer onto the rewind spindle.
For dispensing at 203dpi the minimum and maximum length is 27 to 397mm (1.06 to 15.6").
For dispensing at 305dpi the minimum and maximum length is 27 to 397mm (1.06 to 15.6").
For dispensing at 609dpi the minimum and maximum length is 27 to 397mm (1.06 to 15.6").
LABEL MEDIA
The CL4NX can use label media 22 to 128mm ( 0.87 to 5") wide, inside or outside wound in rolls up to 220mm (8.6") diameter on 76mm (3") or 101mm (4") cores.
The larger core is recommended for very thick label stationery and RFID labels.
CL4NX printers work with either thermal transfer (TT) or direct thermal (DT) label stationery.
TT labels need a ribbon whereas DT labels do not.
THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS
The CL4NX requires ribbons to print on thermal transfer (TT) label stationery.
These ribbons can be inside or outside coated and are wound on 25.4mm (1") cores.
The ribbon width can be from 39.5 to 128mm (1.55 to 5.04").
The maximum ribbon length is 600M (1969') for ribbons which wider than 39.5mm (1.55").
SMART PRINTING
The CL4NX and CL6NX printers have a smart printing capability which is called Application Enabled Printing (AEP).

LABELS
CL4NX printers work with thermal transfer (TT) or direct thermal (DT) media.
TT media needs a ribbon. DT does not.
