GENERAL INFORMATION
The Intermec PD43 is a solidly built light industrial label printer. It measures 249mm (9.8") x 211mm (8.3") x 470mm (18.5") (HxWxD) and weighs 8.4kg (18.5lbs).
The printer height can be further reduced to 209mm (8.3") by replacing the dome top window with a user installable flat window accessory.
The printer has an easy to use user interface based on a colour LCD touch screen.
The PD43 comes with 128MB Flash memory. The Flash can be expanded up to 32GB memory using a USB drive.
The printer runs under Intermec Direct Protocol, IPL and DPL, EPL and ZPL emulations. Fingerprint and Intermec C# for printers are available for stand-alone applications.
The PD43 has a centred paper path similar to desktop style printers.
The PD43 prints at speeds of up to 8ips on thermal transfer label media using printer ribbons up to 300M long. It also prints on direct thermal labels without a ribbon.
The label media is on industry standard 25.4mm (1"), 38mm (1.5") or 76.2mm (3") cores. Ribbons can be on 12.7mm (0.5") or 25.4mm (1") cores.
The PD43 has wide connectivity and also has USB Host ports for stand-alone applications.
The standard media handling is tear-off but label taken, label peel and label cutting mechanisms are available as user installable accessories.
COMMUNICATIONS
All models of the PD43 come with USB 2.0, USB Host ports and a Real time Clock.
Factory built models optionally include Ethernet, Wi-Fi combined with Bluetooth, HF RFID or UHF RFID.
Serial and Parallel adapters are user installed accessories which plug into a USB Host port.
In addition the USB Host ports can be used to increase the Flash memory or to connect USB barcode readers and keyboards as input devices for stand-alone printing applications.
MEDIA HANDLING
The standard model offers "tear-off" mode where the the labels print until the batch is complete and the printed strip of stationery is removed by pulling it against a tear bar.
Using the user installable Label Taken Sensor the printer can stop printing after each label until the label is removed.
Using the user installable Label Dispenser the printer can peel the printed label from the backing and wait until removed.
Using the user installable Cutter the printed label stationery can be cut or partially cut into individual pieces.

LABEL MEDIA
The PD43 can handle rolls of outside wound label stationery on 25.4mm (1"), 38mm (1.5") or 77.2mm (3") cores.
The maximum roll diameter is 203.2mm (8") using the standard dome top window or 152.4mm (6")using the flat top window accessory.
Alternatively label media can be fed into the printer via a slot in the rear of the printer casing.
The media can be from 19mm (0.75") to 118mm (4.65") wide. The maximum printable width is 104mm (4.1").
The PD43 has a label stop sensor for label media with gaps, holes or black marks. This sensor can be positioned from the left media edge to 4.5mm to the right of centre.
THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS
Thermal transfer PD43 printer models can print on thermal transfer label media using a ribbon.
These ribbons can be inside or outside coated and wound on 12.7mm (0.5") or 25.4mm (1") cores.
The ribbons should be centre wound on 110mm (4.3") long cores which are notched.
Alternatively other ribbons on 25.4mm (1") cores can be used with the Ribbon Adapter accessory.
The maximum ribbon length is 300M (984').
The ribbon width can be from 25.4mm (1") to 110mm (4.33").

Some models of the PD43 work with either TT media and a ribbon or DT media without a ribbon.
Other models can only work with DT media.
Please be careful to choose DT labels if you have a DT printer.

Honeywell is in the process of discontinuing the Intermec range of label media for desktop, mid-range and industrial printers and are not yet offering alternative products.
