GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Datalogic Gryphon I GFS4100 is a small high performance fixed position linear imager barcode scanner aimed at kiosk and other automation applications.
The scanner comes in two models with USB or RS232 cables.
The GFS4100 can read all standard 1D codes including GS1 Databar linear barcodes.
DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT
The dimensions are 39 x 58 x 57.1mm (1.5 x 2.2 x 2.3") HxWxD.
The weight is 0.179Kg (0.39 lbs), including the cable.
DROP RESISTANCE AND PROTECTION
The scanner can withstand multiple 0.76m (2.5') drops to concrete.
It is protected to IP54, which means that it is protected against dust (but limited ingress can occur) and it is protected against water sprayed from all directions.
CABLES AND INTERFACES
There are two models.
The GFS4170 USB scanner is fitted with a 2m cable terminated by a USB Type A connector.
GFS4170 interfaces include the USB Keyboard and USB Serial.
The GFS4170 USB Keyboard interface works instantly with any Windows software which accepts keyboard input.
The GFS4170 USB Serial interface is more sophisticated and requires a software driver which can be downloaded from Datalogic.
The GFS4150-9 RS232 scanner is fitted with a 2m cable terminated with a female D9 connector and an external power socket.
POWER REQUIREMENTS
The power requirement is up to 390mA at 5V DC.
The GFS4170 USB model obtains this power directly from the USB connection.
The GFS4150-9 RS232 model requires 5V DC power via the external power socket.
READ RATE AND MOTION TOLERANCE
The read rate of 320 reads per second gives snappy barcode reading.
The motion tolerance of up to 1m per second allows the reading of barcodes on fast moving objects.
RESOLUTION AND READING RANGES
Barcodes can be read with bar widths as small as 3mil.
Typical reading ranges are:
- 50 to 160mm (2 to 6.3") for 5mil
- 30 to 400mm (1.2 to 15.7") for 13mil ie. 100% magnification EAN13
- up to 600mm (23.6") for 20mil.
TRIGGER OPTIONS
A wide range of trigger options is available.
1. The scanner read cycle can be triggered by pressing the blue button on the top of the scanner.
2. The scanner can be free running and in this mode will read any barcodes which come into view.
3. The scanner can automatically sense the presence of an object and try to read a barcode.
4. In serial mode commands to can sent from the host to trigger barcode reading.
5. The RS232 scanner can be hardware triggered from external equipment such as photocells.

Our standard charge for 2-3 day delivery to most locations in mainland UK is £10.
This charge is subject to a weight limit of 20Kg.
