WHAT IS THE DATALOGIC GRYPHON I 4200?
The Datalogic Gryphon I 4200 is a family of hand-held wireless and corded 1D barcode scanners.
WHERE IS THE GRYPHON I 4200 USED?
The Gryphon I 4200 is aimed at General Purpose applications.
The scanner is typically used in Point of Sale, Finance and Administration, Light Manufacturing, Laboratories, Pharmacies and Ticketing.
WHERE DOES THE GRYPHON I 4200 FIT?
The Gryphon I 4200 is a 1D barcode scanner which shares many of the innovations of the Gryphon I 4500 1D/2D scanner.
The Gryphon I 4200 is the first Datalogic 1D scanner since the introduction of the Gryphon I 4100.
The Gryphon I 4100 will become obsolete effective 31 March 2021.
The following shows the recommended Gryphon I 4200 replacements for the Gryphon I 4100.
WHAT EQUIPMENT IS INVOLVED?
The Gryphon I 4200 family consists of several separate products.
CORDED BARCODE SCANNERS
GD4220
The GD4220 are corded USB only scanner Kits which come complete with a USB-A cable.
GD4290
The GD4290 are corded multi-interface scanners.
They work with keyboard Wedge, RS232, USB-A or USB-C cables.
CORDLESS BARCODE SCANNERS
There is a choice of Bluetooth or 433Mhz Datalogic Star Radio communications.
The Gryphon I 4200 cordless scanners require a Charge and Communication Base which has a cable interface and a keyboard Wedge, RS232, USB-A or USB-C cable.
GM4200
The GM4200 is a Star Radio cordless scanner which needs a Star Radio Charge and Communication Base, and a cable.
Complete kits are available which include a Star Radio Cordless Scanner, a Star Radio Base Station and a USB-A cable.
Alternatively individual components are separately available for the construction of bespoke configurations.
GBT4200
The GBT4200 is a Bluetooth cordless scanner which needs a Bluetooth Charge and Communication Base, and a cable.
Complete kits are available which include a Bluetooth Cordless Scanner, a Bluetooth Base Station and a USB-A cable.
Alternatively individual components are separately available for the construction of bespoke configurations.
OTHER ITEMS

KEY FEATURES OF THE GRYPHON I 4200
The Gryphon I 4200 scanner uses enhanced linear imaging technology which provides superior scanning and good Depth of Field.
SPECIAL FEATURES
Special features include the Motionix motion sensing technology, the WLS Wireless Charging System and infection control capabilities.
MOTIONIX
Motionix motion sensing technology switches the scanner into hand-held mode when the scanner is picked up and held in the hand.
The scannner automatically returns to presentation mode when placed on a cradle or stand.
In hand-held mode barcode reading is actioned by pressing the trigger.
WIRELESS CHARGING
Wireless Charging inductively charges cordless scanners when placed on a wireless base station.
This process avoids the need for metal contacts and brings a huge improvement in scanner reliability.
INFECTION CONTROL
The Gryphon I 4200 barcode scanner equipment can be washed with strong disinfectants.
GRYPHON I 4200 OPTICS
Gryphon I 4200 barcode scanners use a Dual LED Array operating at 612 - 630nm.
The Image Sensor is CCD Solid-State.
MAXIMUM RESOLUTION
The maximum resolution is 3 mils (0.077mm).
READING BARCODES
The Gryphon I 4200 reads 1D high-density and low resolution codes, hard-to-read, poor or damaged codes and barcodes shown on mobile devices.

BATTERY
The cordless scanner is powered by an onboard 2550 mAH battery which is charged inductively when the scanner is placed on the base station.
The time taken to recharge the Cordless Scanner Battery completely using a USB-A cable is about 10 hours.
This reduces to 4 hours when using USB-A cables with External Power for High Current.
The number of reads per charge is 80,000.
ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
The input voltage requirements depend on the Gryphon I 4200 Model and are as follows:
- GD4220 Corded Barcode Scanners 5VDC
- GD4290 Corded Barcode Scanners 4 to 14VDC
- GM4200 and GBT4200 Wireless Base Stations 4 to 14VDC
BLUETOOTH OR STAR RADIO WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS
The Gryphon I 4200 Wireless products offer a choice of Bluetooth or Datalogic Star Radio communication.
Bluetooth offers an open air range of up to 100m between the cordless scanner and the base station.
Star Radio offers a lower theoretical open air range of up to 50m.
The Bluetooth scanner can be paired with another Bluetooth device but the working range will depend on the equipment involved.
Star Radio equipment is often used in situations where the Bluetooth spectrum is extremely crowded.
HOW TO CHOOSE A GRYPHON I 4200

CORDED OR CORDLESS?
The first decision you need to make is Corded or Cordless.
Corded models involve a corded scanner and scanner cable.
Corded scanners usually offer the best value for money.
With a corded scanner the distance from the host computer is limited by the length of the cable.
Cables can be up to 5m long, but trailing cables may present a health and safety issue.
CHOOSE A CORDED SOLUTION
If you prefer a corded scanner and are happy with a 2m (6') USB-A cable we suggest that you go for a Black or White GD4220.
NEED A DIFFERENT CABLE?
If your host computer has a USB-C port we suggest that you choose a USB-C cable and construct a bespoke configuration starting with a GD4290 scanner.
Other configurations can be constructed with Keyboard Wedge, RS232 and USB-A cables.
If you are connecting to an RS232 port which is unable to provide power on pin 9 you should choose an RS232 cable with an external power socket and add an external power supply.
CHOOSE A CORDLESS SOLUTION
Cordless Gryphon I 4200 scanners come with a choice of Bluetooth or Datalogic Star Radio.
If you might need to pair your scanner with another Bluetooth device then you should choose Bluetooth.
Star Radio is useful if you are working in a very crowded Bluetooth spectrum.
If you are happy with a charging time of around 10 hours then your choice should be a Bluetooth (GBT4200) or a Star Radio (GM4200) scanner kit with the included USB-A cable.
NEED FASTER CHARGING?
Charging time can be reduced to around 4 hours.
If you need a faster charging time and your host computer has a USB-C power port then you could construct a bespoke configuration using a Bluetooth (GBT4200) or Star Radio Scanner (GM4200), a WLC4190 Gryphon I 4200 Base Station and a USB-C Cable for High Current.
If you need even faster charging then you should construct a bespoke configuration using a Bluetooth scanner (GBT4200) or a Star Radio scanner (GM4200), with a WLC4090 Gryphon I 4500 Base or a WLC4190 Gryphon I 4200 Base, and a USB-A Cable with External Power for High Current with a 12V External Power Supply.
WARRANTY
The factory warranty period is 3 years for the wireless Gryphon I 4200 scanner and 5 years for the corded models.
REPLACEMENTS FOR THE GRYPHON I 4100
The Gryphon I 4200 parts are not mechanically compatible with the Gryphon I 4100.

Our standard charge for 2-3 day delivery to most locations in mainland UK and mainland Europe is £10.
This charge is subject to a weight limit of 20Kgs.
