WHAT IS THE HONEYWELL PM45 COMPACT?
The Honeywell PM45 Compact is a set of compact industrial "4 inch" Direct Thermal and Thermal Transfer printers.
WHERE IS THE PM45C USED?
The PM45C is suitable for applications in many areas including production, retail and pharmacy.
WHERE DOES THE PM45C FIT?
The PM45C fits between the new PD45 family and the heavy duty PXie family.
The PM45c is a compact printer for use where a small footprint is required.
The PM45 is the full size version.
WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT THE PM45C?
SMALL FOOTPRINT
The PM45C is only 253mm wide but, with the exception of the long door models, can accomodate full size rolls of labels.
RUGGEDNESS
The PM45C is designed to be used in harsh industrial environments.
HIGH PRECISION PRINTING
The PM45C can print on labels as small as 5mm in height with a vertical position accuracy of 0.5mm.
PRINT SPEED
PM45C 203dpi printers have a maximum speed of 14 inches per second.
UNIVERSAL FIRMWARE
The PM45C supports a wide range of printer languages and can automatically detect which is being used.
WHAT USER INTERFACES ARE AVAILABLE?
The choice of user interface is important and will depend on how the printer is to be used.
ICON PANEL
This user interface comprises a LED Icon panel and a Print/Feed button.
The Icon panel contains icons that light up to indicate printer communications, printer errors and maintenance issues.
Interaction between the operator and the printer is limited to looking at the icons and pressing a single button.
FULL COLOUR TOUCH SCREEN
This user interface comprises a full colour touch screen and a Print/Feed button.
The touch screen allows the operator to interact with the printer using menus. There are a number of wizards to assist with the setup of printing, communications and calibration.
WHAT DOOR OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
The PM45C comes in three forms.
LONG DOOR
The long door fully encloses the label media but only works with reduced size rolls.
SHORT DOOR
The short door is cut away and works with full size label rolls but the media is exposed.
MEGA DOME DOOR
The mega dome door works with full size label rolls and the media is fully enclosed.
The clear plastic dome extends both the height and depth of the printer.
WHAT PRINT RESOLUTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
The choice of print resolution will depend on the type of labels that are to be printed.
The options are 203dpi, 300dpi and 600dpi.
The print speeds depend on the resolution.

WHAT CONNECTION OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
All PM45C printers can be connected using USB, RS232 and Ethernet cables.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are available as an option.
A USB Host Port allows the connection of a keyboard, barcode scanner or USB storage device.
WHAT LABEL STATIONERY CAN BE USED?
The label stationery used by the PM45C is usually housed internally in roll form. Alternatively fanfold stationery can be fed in through a slot in the rear of the printer.
The printer works with rolls of label stationery wound on 38-76mm cores.
The maximum outside diameter of the rolls depend on the type of door.
For short door and mega dome door models it is 213mm.
For long door models it is 152mm.
Some printer configurations work with heat sensitive Direct Thermal (DT) label stationery only.
The majority can also work with non-heat sensitive label media (TT) using a ribbon to print the label image.
The PM45C has adjustable label sensors which means that the label media can be:
- Self-adhesive die-cut labels with gaps
- Self-adhesive butt-cut labels without gaps and with under-printed black marks
- Non-adhesive tags punched with holes or slots
- Non-adhesive tags under-printed with black marks
- Continuous stationery, for example receipt paper
WHAT LABEL PRINTING SOFTWARE IS AVAILABLE?
Most label printers are used in conjunction with Label Printing Software packages.
An example of labelling software is Bartender Ultra Lite for Honeywell which can be downloaded free of charge.

Labelling software applications send commands in languages which are known to the printer.
If you wish you can use these printer languages directly.
The available languages for this printer are:
- Direct Protocol
- IPL
- Zebra ZPL
- Datamax DPL
The PM45C has "autosensing" capability which enables it to detect the language being sent to it automatically.
Other specialist printer languages are available and these are described in Advanced Features.
WHAT CAN BE PRINTED ON THE LABELS?
The PM45C prints monochrome text, barcodes and graphics.
The legibility of small print depends on the printhead resolution, 600dpi being the best option.
The PM45C comes with a range of resident fonts and additional fonts can be downloaded.
A wide range of 1D and 2D barcodes is available.
WHAT MEDIA HANDLING IS AVAILABLE?
TEAR OFF
Some PM45C printer configurations come with no special media handling and the printed label media is torn off by pulling against the tear bar.
PEEL OFF WITHOUT LINER REWIND
This mode requires the Label Dispenser accessory which includes a label taken sensor.
As each label is printed it is peeled ready for its removal by the user.
The process is monitored by the label taken sensor and when the label has been removed the next printed label is presented and the spent liner is left hanging.
PEEL OFF WITH LINER REWIND
This mode requires a factory fitted option which includes a label taken sensor and a rewind spindle.
The self-adhesive label stationery is threaded through the printer, a few labels are removed from the end of the roll and the loose end of liner is wound around a core on the rewind spindle.
When the label is printed the label partly peels on the tear bar and waits for its removal by the user. The process is monitored by the label taken sensor and when the label has been removed the next printed label is presented and the spent liner is taken up on the rewind spindle.
CUT OFF
A cutter accessory is available which fits onto the front of the printer.
The printed label media passes through this unit and is cut across into individual pieces.
The label stationery will normally be non-adhesive label tags, receipt paper, or self-adhesive labels with gaps.
WHAT LABELS AND RIBBONS CAN THE PM45C USE?
LABEL MEDIA
Some models of the PM45C can print on TT label media with the aid of a ribbon or on DT label media without a ribbon. Other models can print on DT labels only.
The label media can be outside wound on 38mm or 76mm (1.5 or 3.0") cores, or fanfolded.
The short door and mega dome door models internally house rolls of labels with an outside diameter of up to 213mm.
The long door models are limited to rolls of up to 152mm.
Fanfolded stationery is held outside the printer and is fed through a slot in the rear of the printer.
The label media width can be from 19 to 114mm.
The maximum printable width and length depend on the resolution.

THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS
Some models of the PM45C can print on Thermal Transfer media with the aid of a ribbon.
The ribbons can be up to 110mm wide. The ribbons can be inside or outside wound on 25.4mm cores.
The maximum ribbon length is 300m.
ADVANCED FEATURES
The following advanced features are available.
FINGERPRINT AND C#
Honeywell Fingerprint and C# can be used with the PM45C printer.
These Smart printer languages allow the printer to run applications and do not depend on the connection to a host.
USB HOST PORT
All PM45C printers come with a USB Host port. This can be used to connect USB keyboards, USB barcode scanners and USB storage.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS AND WEIGHT OF THE PM45C?
The dimensions and weight of the PM45C depend on the type of door.
For short door and long door models the dimensions are 432mm x 181mm x 253mm (LxHxW) and the weight is 12.6kg.
For mega dome door models the dimensions are 500mm x 245mm x 253mm (LxHxW) and the weight is 12.8Kg.
WARRANTY AND SERVICE
The Honeywell PM45 Compact has a warranty of twelve months.

Our standard charge for 2-3 day delivery to most locations in mainland UK is £10.
This charge is subject to a weight limit of 20Kg.
For consignments which are heavier than 20Kg we reserve the right to add a surcharge.
