PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Zebra 170Xi4 is a "6 inch" High Performance Thermal Transfer (TT) label printer housed in a strong metal case.
The printer comes in two series of models which provide choice of 203dpi or 300dpi resolution. These models print on both Thermal Transfer (TT) and Direct Thermal (DT) label media at speeds of up to 12 and 8 inches per second respectively.
The 170Xi4 runs under the ZPL printer language.
The 170Xi4 has USB, Serial, Parallel and ZebraNet Ethernet 10/100 connectivity as standard, some models also come with ZebraNet Wireless 802.11, or Zebranet Wireless Plus, or an Applicator Interface.
Zebra 170Xi4 models offer the choice of tear-off paper handling, or cutter, or label peel with full roll rewind.
The 170Xi4 works with continuous media, die cut labels, notched media and black marked stationery.
On the supply side some 170Xi4 models come with a label hanger. Other models come with a 75mm media spindle.
Some models have the Flash memory increased from 8MB to 64MB.
The 170Xi4 comes with a Real Time Clock and the Printhead Failure monitoring system.
Some models have the Flash memory increased from 8MB to 64MB.
A wide range of field installable upgrade options is available for the Zebra 110Xi4.

A Bit More Description
The printer has an easy to use front panel user interface with a LCD display.
The 170Xi4 measures 393.7mm (15.5") x 338.1mm (13.31") x 517.5mm (20.38").
The printer weighs 30.5kg (67lbs).
Media Handling
Three factory installed options are available:
- Tear-off.
- Peel-off with Full Roll Rewind.
- Cutter with catch tray.
On the supply side some models come with a label hanger which accepts rolls of labels on 76mm (3") cores, other models come with a 76mm (3") Media Supply Spindle.
Label Media
The 170Xi4 can handle rolls of label stationery up to 203mm (8") outer diameter on 76mm (3") cores.
Alternatively fan-folded label media can be fed into the printer via a slot in the rear.
The media width can be from 51mm (2") to 180mm (7.1"). The maximum printable width is 168mm (6.6").
The minimum label length is:
- 6mm (0.25") for rewind mode.
- 12.7mm (0.5") for peel.
- 17.8mm (0.7") for tear off.
- 38mm (1.5") when used with the cutter.
The maximum non-continuous label length is 991mm (39").
The label media types can be continuous, die-cut, notched or black marked.
The 170Xi4 has a moveable transmissive sensor and a fixed reflective sensor.
Ribbons
The 170Xi4 can print on thermal transfer label media with the aid of a thermal transfer ribbon.
These ribbons are outside coated and wound on 25.4mm (1") cores.
The maximum outside diameter is 81.3mm (3.2") which equates to a length of 450M (1476') for standard ribbons.
The ribbon width can be from 51mm (2") to 170mm (6.7").
Communications Options
The 170Xi4 has USB, Serial, Parallel and ZebraNet PrintServer 10/100 Ethernet connectivity.
In addition some models can also include one of the following options:
- ZebraNet Wireless b/g PrintServer.
- Zebranet Wireless Plus (Needs a Motorola or Cisco Radio Card).
- Applicator Interface Port (5V)
Memory
Two factory fitted memory options are available for the 170Xi4:
- 8MB of flash memory and 16MB of SDRAM memory.
- 64MB of flash memory and 16MB of SDRAM memory.
Other
All models come with a Real Time Clock.
The 170Xi4 comes the printhead fault detection system.
Field Installable Options
Field installable options for the factory made 170Xi4 models include:
- a Cutter with Catch Tray.
- a Media Rewind Spindle.
- a Media Rewind Plate (used when both the Cutter and Rewind are Installed).
- a Media Supply Spindle for 75mm Cores.
- a Media Supply Spindle for 40mm Cores.
- an External ZebraNet 10/100 Ethernet Print Server.
- a ZebraNet b/g Wireless Print Server.
- a Zebranet Wireless Plus (no radio card included).
- a 5V Applicator Interface Port.
- a 24-28V Applicator Interface Port.
- a Twinax Communications Interface Kit.
- a Coax Communications Interface Kit.
-a KDU Plus Keyboard Display Unit.

Z-Select 2000D
Zebra Z-Select 2000D is a direct thermal, white, premium top-coated, ultra smooth paper label with a permanent rubber based adhesive, ideal for use in low temperature applications.
It has a service temperature range of −40º to 50ºC and the lowest temperature at which a label can be applied is −5ºC.
Z-Select 2000D is designed to provide optimal image quality. It is ideal for high-speed printing applications where premium print quality is important.
