The Motorola Symbol DS3508-SR is a rugged area imager barcode scanner aimed at industrial applications which involve general 1D and 2D barcodes and the capturing of images to record damage to goods etc.

The Symbol DS3508-SR scanner comes in a high visibility Yellow and Twilight Black colour scheme.
The scanner can read all standard 1D barcodes, PDF, postal code and 2d matrix barcodes. This includes all versions of the GS1 DataBar.
The Symbol DS3508-SR scanner has a maximum resolution of 4 mil for Code39 and 7.5 mil for Data Matrix codes. The maximum reading distance for 100% EAN13 barcodes is about 38cm.
The scanner has a 4.5 to 14V cable interface which works with IBM 46xx, Keyboard Wedge, RS232, Synapse and USB cables.
The Symbol DS3508 is a direct replacement for the DS4308 and DS4307 but does not support Wand Emulation and Undecoded cables.
The scanner is protected from dust and rain to IP65, operates at minus 20° to 50°C and can withstand 2m drops to concrete. The scanner is warranted for 3 years.
Two Scanner Kits are available for the Symbol DS3508-SR. These kits provide a choice of USB or RS232 connection.
Other configurations can be constructed by combining a DS3508-SR scanner with the huge range of IBM 46xx, Keyboard Wedge, RS232, Synapse and USB cables.
Power Supplies and Mains Power Cords are available, if required.
Finally a useful range of Accessories is available. These accessories include various holders, an intellistand which automatically switches the scanner into presentation mode when placed in the cradle and a Tool Balancer Pulley for suspending the scanner within in easy reach of the user.

CABLES
A cable is required to provide communication and to carry power.
Most USB, Keyboard Wedge and IBM 46xx connections are able to supply power directly to the scanner from the connected equipment. In some rare cases external power may be required.
Standard RS232 ports generally cannot provide power and RS232 connections will usually need the assistance of an external power supply and a cable with an external power socket.
