Intermec EasyCoder PF8t

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Starting at £275.99, including labelling software, the Intermec EasyCoder PF8t is the largest member of the PF8 family of 4 inch desktop barcode label printers.

The PF8 series is the successor to the PC4 and is designed to handle a wide range of label printing applications at remarkably low cost.

The Intermec PF8t is a compact thermal transfer (TT) barcode label printer which offers a resolution of 203dpi or 300dpi.

The key features of the Intermec PF8d are as follows:

COMPACT BARCODE LABEL PRINTER

The Intermec PF8t is a thermal transfer barcode label printer. It prints directly on thermal labels without the need for a ribbon or on paper and plastic stationery with an appropriate ribbon.

Despite being fairly compact it handles 4 inch wide labels, and prints tags and labels at speeds of up to 4ips.

EASY TO INSTALL

The Intermec PF8t is very easy to install on your PC.

The printer comes with a USB cable and a CD.

You simply connect up the printer, power it up, insert the CD into your PC and follow the instructions on the screen.

PAPER HANDLING

The Intermec PF8t prints on die cut labels supported on backing media paper, and continuous media such as paper and card tags.

The printer is equipped with a choice of two sensors which detect the label edge, holes or slots in tags, and black marks printed on the under surface.

The stationery is on rolls or fan-folded.

The rolls are outside wound and up to 5 inch in outside diameter on 1 or 1.5 inch cores.

The roll is housed within the printer. To load a roll you simply open the clam shell casing and place the roll on the support bar.

Fan-folded stationery is passed into the printer via a slot at the rear.

The printed stationery projects from the front of the printer.

The Intermec PF8t is a compact printer and has no provision to rewind the printed labels internally.

The printer is usually used in "tear-off" mode where the printed stationery is torn off by pulling it against a tear bar.

With the aid of an optional kit the printer can be used in "peel-off" mode. Here individual die cut labels are printed on demand and presented partly peeled from the backing.

Again due to the compactness of the Intermec PF8t the spent backing media cannot be internally rewound and has to be periodically removed.

Finally an optional kit is available to cut paper or thin card label stationery.

SOFTWARE

The Intermec PF8t is supplied with drivers, the LabelShop START entry level label design and printing package, and software utilities.

Although most of us will use the PF8t in conjunction with a PC labelling package it is possible to drive the printer from other types of hardware using the EPL programming language.

The Intermec PF8t has built-in expandable fonts and and a wide range of barcodes which covers both the most common linear barcodes and a selection of the more important 2d codes.

MEDIA

Label Stationery

The Intermec PF8t will print on both thermal media and thermal transfer media.

Thermal media does not require a ribbon.

A range of Economy and Top Coated labels and boards are available from Intermec and others.

Thermal transfer media requires a ribbon.

A range of uncoated paper, coated paper and filmic stationery is available from Intermec and others.

The maximum media width including the liner is 4.57" (116mm) and the minimum is 1.00" (25mm).

On die cut labels the printer will normally find the leading edge of the label. For other types of media such as tags, slots and black marks on the under surface, are used for registration purposes and these should be in the centre of the stationery.

Thermal Transfer Ribbons

These are used in conjunction with thermal transfer label stationery.

There are three types of ribbon.

Wax or General Purpose ribbons are usally used with uncoated paper and shiny coated paper.

Wax/Resin ribbons are usually used with matt or semi-gloss coated paper.

Resin ribbons are used with smooth filmic materials.

The thermal transfer ribbons used on the Intermec PF8t printer are not in the usual desktop format.

The ribbons are medium length industrial printer ribbons and are supplied on 1 inch notched cores.

Thermal transfer ribbons are available from Intermec and others.
